Computer Science provides technologies and solutions for computing, data management and Internet applications. Research areas include advanced database solutions, middleware systems and technology for knowledge management, user design for human-computer interaction, Web technologies, content management, services-oriented architectures and e-commerce, e-utilities and computer science principles and methodologies. Watson researchers do fundamental research in cryptography, computational biology and learning theory, among others. A focus area of IBM’s high performance computing work is protein folding, which combines sophisticated pattern-searching algorithms with advanced computational, data and analytic methods to assemble solutions that are potentially valuable for drug discovery.
With On Demand Innovation Services, its first-ever client-facing group, IBM Research has set out to change the way IBM works in the services industry. Researcher consultants are available to partner with consultants from IBM Global Services on client engagements that explore cutting-edge ways to increase clients' flexibility and provide them with unique market advantages in line with IBM's on demand strategy.
The Hawthorne site is also the home to one of IBM's Industry Solutions Labs, which give IBM clients the chance to discover how leading-edge technologies and innovative solutions can help solve business problems. Each visit is tailored to meet specific needs, focused enough to target an immediate sales objective or broad enough to cover an array of emerging technologies. The engagement generally lasts for one day and consists of presentations by IBM scientists and industry experts, collaborative discussions on specific business issues and demonstrations of key strategic solutions.

From the Yorktown Building
IBM Road north and turn left onto Route 134. Turn left onto Taconic State Parkway south, to Route 100 exit. Turn left and proceed south on Route 100, which merges with Route 9A. Continue south on Route 9A. Turn left at Skyline Drive (traffic light approximately 0.2 miles south of Multiplex Cinemas). Follow Skyline Drive by bearing right at intersections. The IBM Hawthorne buildings are the last two on the left.

IBM Industry Solutions Lab
If you are going to the IBM Industry Solutions Lab, located in the Hawthorne II building, after turning onto Skyline Drive turn right past the second building and park in the lot. Upon entering the building, inform the security guard that you are visiting the Industry Solutions Lab. The IBM Industry Solutions Lab is on the left side of the main lobby.
